Simple Party Planning Tips

Let’s party! Now that summer is in full swing and we are socializing in a pretty normal fashion, I’m sure many of you are organizing functions and planning parties in and out of the home.

This is true for us in that we are planning a housewarming party to celebrate us purchasing our home back in January. It is scheduled for later this summer and planning has been fun! Planning can also be stressful though especially when you are inviting people into your home.

Here is the simple way I approached party planning:

Choose date and time details. Pick a day and time for the part. Summertime is busy for everyone, but it is important to find a day and time that works for you. If it is important for people to be there, they’ll be there! But do pick a day and time that makes sense for what the party is about and who the guests are!

Choose a focus for the party. This is a simple way to decide what your party is all about and an “itinerary” will fall into place with this focus. For example, the focus of a housewarming party could be house tours, yard games, good summertime music and late night grilling.

Make a guest list and invite. You can easily make a guest list by thinking of your different circles and running through the people within them. Something to consider beforehand is the maximum number of people you’d like to come and that can guide you. For our housewarming party, we had a larger list so decided to do one family party and one friends party! When it comes to the invitation, block out time to invite guests via text, Facebook group or formal invitation. If you are planning to supply food, make sure you get some form of RSVP for planning purposes!

Create a list of needed items. Create a document and simply list some headings of items needed so that you can list out needed items within each category. Categories in my eyes include food, drinks, decorations, supplies, vendors, etc. From there you can purchase, contact and coordinate each item.

Make room for misc. and other needs. Because there are always forgotten tasks and to-do’s! This list can be good for day-of tasks that must be done.

List of resources. Make note of vendors, resources or websites you need to connect with or reference as you go through the planning process.

Party planning should be fun and exciting. don’t let the first step get in the way of you enjoying time with friends and family!
